Hard Water in DFW and What It Does to Plumbing
Scale is slow, cumulative, and behind a surprising share of fixture and heater problems locally.
Call for Plumbing HelpWhat you notice first
Spotting on glassware, film on shower doors, soap that does not lather, and aerators that clog every few months are the earliest signs. None of it is harmful to drink; all of it is hard on equipment.
What it does over time
Scale settles in tank heaters as sediment, which insulates the burner and causes rumbling. In tankless units it coats the heat exchanger and reduces flow. Valve cartridges and fill valves wear out faster.
Options
A softener exchanges the minerals that cause scale. A whole-house filter addresses taste, chlorine, and sediment but not hardness. Descaling a tankless unit on a regular schedule matters more here than in soft-water regions.
